Since 2016, the Trinity Men's Group has assumed the responsibility of placing lights on the Reed City Community Christmas Tree as well as the sign at the Reed City Depot. With that responsibility, the group has also selected an honorary tree lighter to "light" the tree on the Friday of the Reed City Evergreen Festival. We are pleased to announce this year's honorary tree lighter as Mr. Don Beach of Chase, MI.
Don is the owner of D Bar D Ranch in Chase. Each of the last nine Septembers, Don and D Bar D Ranch have hosted its annual "Ride for the Cure" at the ranch. It's a fun-filled weekend including trail rides, bonfires, dancing, music, auction, and great food. The funds raised from this event support the Susan P. Wheatlake Cancer Center at Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital. This event has raised over $200,000 since its inception including over $25,000 in 2019!
"The support from our ranch family, our volunteers and the community has been incredible," Beach said. "Cancer affects all of us in one way or another, and it has personally affected us at the ranch. So we do this to help cancer patients, and to thank those at the cancer center who devote their careers to the important work of treating those patients."
D Bar D Ranch also hosts a charity ride each August to support Angels of Action and the fight against childhood hunger. "The community is important to us and we continue to grow, we continue to give back," said Beach.
Past honorary tree lighters include Ellen Finkbeiner, Coach Monty Price and the members of the Coyote football team, and Carol Andres.
This year's tree lighting event will take place on Friday, November 29th at the Depot. For the first time this year, the Evergreen Festival Parade will precede the tree lighting event. The parade will begin at 6:30 through the downton Upton Ave area and end at the Depot. The tree lighting event will begin at 7:00 and includes a community bonfire, carol singing, and snacks. Pere Marquette Bistro will be supplying hot chocolate and Wesco is providing cookies. Aaron Rohde will be leading the carols on his guitar.
Special thanks to Jim Donley and Double Diamond Transport for assisting with the purchase of lights for the tree and sign and also to Gerber Construction for providing the boom lift.
